The Proposal...
When I arrived home from work on a random Thursday afternoon in September, I found pretty potted plants scattered throughout our home! Sunflowers were on the table too, which are my favorite flowers. Jonathan said he hadn’t been home long, but I was confused because all of the laundry was done and dishes put away! He cooked us a salmon dinner, but didn’t eat one bite of it. I was instructed to get dressed for an “outside activity”. Jonathan drove me to a local reservoir, where we have many memories with family and friends. He pulled out a picnic basket filled with chocolate and Vermont wine. We took the walking path around the water and set up a picnic to watch the sunset. After finishing his glass of wine, he pulled me up to my feet. At that moment I started to realize what was happening, and couldn’t believe it! He got down on one knee and asked the question I’ve been dreaming of since we met. I can’t remember exactly what my initial reaction was, but it involved a big “YES!”, crying, laughing, hopping in circles, kissing and giggling with excitement. He had driven 2 hours that day to ask my father’s permission for my hand in marriage.
Why Vermont...
Jonathan and I are both native Vermonters, and Danielle grew up in the Northeast Kingdom. It only seemed fitting to return there for our wedding day!
Theme / Color Palette...
Romantic, garden-inspired, natural, soft color palette with sage green, blush, ivory and light blues.
Fav Details...
The earrings I wore were made from diamonds from my parents original wedding bands! The handkerchief I used was from Jonathan’s baptism as a baby.
Fav Moments...
Some of our favorite moments were walking down the aisle after being pronounced husband and wife showered with white rose petals, our first dance, and a group hug at the end of the night from all of our guests.
"Vermont Bride is a wonderful resource for anyone planning a Vermont wedding! We loved looking through the “Real Wedding’s” section to get inspiration and find vendors. Being able to see a vendor’s work displayed in a magazine is extremely helpful when selecting someone who will help create your own wedding vision!" ~ Danielle & Jonathan

Our Vermont wedding truly felt like a fairytale. Although the day began with a light drizzle of warm summer rain - the clouds parted and flowers bloomed for our four o'clock ceremony. Our wedding was located in a very rural area , off of a windy dirt road with cows and chickens lining the drive. Our guests were brought to the ceremony hill in a romantic covered wagon, and the pastor from my small hometown who married us has know my family since we were little. We collected vintage handkerchiefs from our attics and friends to hand to guests and white rose petals to toss. Jonathan and I exchanged hand written wedding vows, and my brother - who is studying at Dartmouth College - read an original analogy he had composed about our us. Needless to say, the handkerchiefs were well used!
We had lovely twinkly lights in the cocktail pavilion next to a luscious green pond, with our fruit and cheese platter served from a wooden red canoe. Many of our details were homemade - we used family recipes for our homemade desserts! Many of our details captured the beauty of Vermont - such as the lipstick I wore (a Vermont beauty brand that was tinted with flower petals!) and my great grandmother's pearl earrings on my wedding bouquet. I also wore custom earrings made from diamonds out of my parents original wedding bands! We danced the night away with our family and friends. One highlight that I will never forget is the story my father told during our his toast - of how our wedding fell EXACTLY 20 years to the day that he was in a horrible accident that could've taken his life. We have never felt more love than on our wedding day. The perfect day ended with an amazing sparkler exit - which was all Jonathan's idea!
