Elizabeth & Dylan Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Waitsfield Vermont Barn Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

Elizabeth and Dylan’s relationship evolved from friendship to something more during their time at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York. On their eighth anniversary they planned a hiking trip in New Hampshire but what Elizabeth thought would be a day trip was really a romantic weekend getaway in a log cabin that Dylan had planned. On the first evening while sitting by a waterfall at sunset, Dylan proposed!

Elizabeth grew up in Vermont and always envisions having her wedding there someday. The couple wanted a vanue that was both indoors and outdoors, with a beautiful view. The Skinner Barn had everything on their checklist, and more. While the day of their wedding seems like a blur of amazing events, the feeling of love and support from their friends and family is what stands out to them most. An indescribable feeling of joy to accompany a surreal weekend of celebrating their relationship and marriage.

Elizabeth and Dylan have this advice for other couples: “All the details are fun (and sometimes stressful) to plan but remember what it’s all about.  No matter what the details look like, it will be the most amazing day, celebrating you and your partner with so much love from family and friends.  One thing we did is we took a moment to ourselves right after the ceremony, we walked down the aisle and went straight to the side of the barn, where they had set up a glass or champagne for us and we just had a few minutes to reflect and be alone, it was one of the most memorable moments of our wedding.  So even if it’s only a few minutes, take it, spend a few minutes alone with your new husband/wife.”

Erin & Paul Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Rustic Mountain Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

Erin had no idea that she would meet her future husband when she embarked on her Appalachian Trail thru-hike (hiking the entire trail from Maine to Georgia), but when she met Paul on a section of the trail in Sunfish Pond, New Jersey they swapped emails after eating lunch together. Paul had hiked from Georgia to Maine the year before and was working as a Ridge Runner on the trail. He met up with Erin for one of her final weeks of her hike and they had their first date. The Sunfish Pond section of the trail would later have even more significance as it is the spot where Erin proposed to Paul! She convinced him to go on an impromptu hike on their way to Vermont for Thanksgiving and surprised him with handmade wooden engagement rings.

Erin and Paul decided on Vermont for the location of their wedding because it fit the bill for the outdoor, mountain wedding they wanted. It also helped that Erin’s parent’s home was the perfect location to hold it. Included in their invitations were prayer flags, which they asked their guests to do something creative with and mail them back. The couple then took the flags and hung them in the trees at the site of their ceremony.

Lindsay & Finn Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Mountain Top Inn and Resort Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

Vermont is a place that is very dear to both Finn and Lindsay. Finn grew up there and over the last several years it has become a second home to Lindsay. Plus you can’t beat the beautiful, natural backdrop! The couple wanted to share their favorite spot with Lindsay’s family and all of their friends. It was important that their guests could stay on property and have plenty to do together, since most would be coming from out of town. The Mountain Top Inn & Resort had all of the amenities, and the breathtaking vistas, that they were looking for. Their entire wedding weekend was held on site, from the rehearsal dinner down by the lake, to a Sunday farewell brunch. Their guests enjoyed horseback riding, playing tennis, walking the trails, and even skeet shooting. Not only is the Mountain Top Inn beautiful, but it is practically a “summer camp for adults,” as Lindsay puts it. From s’mores around the fire pit to sipping drinks by the pool—there was something for everyone.

To read more of Lindsay and Finn's love story and to see more photos from their wedding, check out the Winter/Spring 2017 issue of Vermont Bride Magazine, now available for purchase in select retailers throughout New England or on our website.

Julie & Brian Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Mountain Top Inn and Resort Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine | Rustic Elegant Purple and Gray Wedding

Although both had been married before, Julie and Brian both knew that this time was different, and they wanted to celebrate the joy of finding a love that is also built on friendship. Thus their “It is never too late for Happily Ever After” theme was born! The couple has spent many holidays and special occasions at The Mountain Top Inn and Resort and knew it would be the prefect spot to say “I do”. It even overlooks the Chittenden Reservoir, where Julie and Brian went kayaking on their very first date.

Their color palette was gray, neutrals, and touches of purple. They also incorporated birch candle holders that were hand cut from family property in New York. There were lots of handmade touches- Julie’s best friend Tracie hand crafted the silk flowers that were in the bouquets and center pieces, and Brian made his famous handmade fudge for favors. The hair piece Julie wore closely resembled the one her mother had worn at her own wedding, 50 years prior, and the rose petals guests tossed had been saved from roses Julie received from Brian throughout their relationship. The kayak oar guest book also has special meaning, as both Julie and Brian love to kayak and it was how they connected on their first date.

Family is number one to both Julie and Brian, so they wanted to involve their family as much as possible. The wedding party consisted of their children and grandchildren. Brian’s son, Kristopher, gave a heartfelt and humorous speech, while Julie’s three daughters, Alaura, Alyssa, and Aimee, put together a speech that went along with the Fresh Price of Bel-Air rap. Their friend Lauren, who first introduced the couple, officiated at the ceremony and was able to tell guests how the couple first met.

Some of Julie and Brain’s favorite moments included the final sendoff where guests made an arch of sparklers the couple went through as they cheered, Tracie and her son Chase, did a reading from Dr. Seuss “Oh the Places You Will Go!”, Julie’s niece, Kelly, also did a reading, and Molly Quinn did an amazing rendition of “I Can’t Help Falling in Love.” Their advice for other couples planning a wedding; “Enjoy every moment of your engagement!”

Lauren & David Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Stratton Mountain Resort | Ski Resort Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

Lauren grew up visiting Vermont to ski with her family, Stratton Mountain being a favorite destination. After She and David started dating, he quickly learned to ski and the couple spent many weekends in the winter traveling up to Stratton to ski, and in the fall and spring to hike. It became such a special place to them that David chose it as the location to propose to Lauren. On a rainy Saturday he surprised Lauren with an ATV ride up the mountain. With a beautiful view of Stratton Village and Bromley in the distance, David got down on one knee and popped the question! He even had champagne for a toast before they rode back down the mountain to enjoy a couple’s massage and a special dinner at her favorite restaurant.

With all of their history there, it came as no surprise that they chose Stratton for the location of their wedding celebration. The village also offered the perfect playground for their guests with an abundance of restaurants, bars, shopping, and activities - plus there was lodging available for everyone. They carried the theme of their location into their place cards, which were shaped like gondolas, and their tables which they named after their favorite trails on the mountain. Another Vermont favorite, maple cotton candy, was a hit during dessert and was a way for the couple to share their love of the Peru Fair, which they go to every year.

Some of their favorite moments involved how happy their families were throughout the day. Lauren’s father danced better, faster, and harder than anyone else and his joy was radiating with every move. They also loved their first look at the covered bridge, something they have skied under many times but had not gone inside of very often. It was a special moment that they took to reflect and relax before the ceremony.

Their advice for other couples; “Make your wedding about you!  Choose the things you love and that will make you happy on your special day.  Capture as many moments of happiness and joy as you can.  And in the end, just relax and enjoy it all because the day goes by entirely too fast!”

Bekki & Alex Real New Hampshire Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine | New England Wedding Inspiration

Alex and Bekki discovered some interesting commonalities when they met at a bar in Haverhill, Massachusettes. Bekki is a high school ceramics teacher and Alex happens to enjoy ceramics as a hobby. They were also surprised to learn that Bekki’s apartment was located right next to Alex’s parent’s house. It was not long after their first meeting that they went out for their first date.

On a trip to Bekki’s family’s lake house in Maine, Alex surprised her with his grandmother’s engagement ring in a handmade birch box one early morning on the front porch as she was reading. They decided to have their wedding in Bekki’s home town of Lyme, New Hampshire and they knew the are would be beautiful in the fall. Being a teacher herself, Bekki liked the idea of getting married in an old school house and the Lyme Academy Building had a wonderful old charm- plus enough space to comfortably fit all of their guests. The nearby Dartmouth Skiway had a post and beam interior that they both loved, plus a beautiful overlook of the mountain from the large deck.

Their color palette of slate blue, orange, and cream was perfect for a fall harvest theme. They had gorgeous centerpieces of pumpkins, gourds, bittersweet, and vines. Bekki’s mother made table runners with sunflowers on them and Bekki created ceramic acorns for decorations that doubled as favors. They used names of New Hampshire mountains for the different tables. Their love of New England was apparent and their wedding perfectly blended into the fall landscape.

Courtney & John Real Vermont Wedding | Jackson Gore Inn | Okemo Mountain | Vermont Bride Magazine

With the help of a close friend in the jewelry business, John picked out a gorgeous Art Deco ring and even managed to sneak down to Courtney’s parents home in Rutland to ask for their blessing. The following weekend John moved in with Courtney, and surprised her with “one more box” to unpack-which was the ring! Both John and Courtney are native Vermonters so they knew their wedding had to be in Vermont. After looking at several locations they both fell in love with the Jackson Gore Inn. There was gorgeous views of the mountains, plenty of natural light, and the wedding coordinators made sure that everything was perfect.

Courtney is an avid skier so hosting the wedding at a ski resort made her feel right at home. John also appreciated the venues golf course and that there were many activities for their guest to enjoy while they were there. Courtney’s mother hand made the centerpieces out of vintage plates, teacups, and candlesticks. They were so beautiful that John and Courtney gave them away to guests, although it was hard to part with them! Another of the bride’s favorite details were the small sentimental touches in her gown/accessories.  Her “something blue” was a blue flower appliqué taken from her Mother’s wedding gown, and sewn into the inside of hers.  She wore a necklace that was made from her maternal Grandmother’s ring, and her “something old” was a handkerchief sewn by her paternal Great-Great-Great Aunt.

The groom had several favorite details including the cigar bar which featured vintage tins and decorations also made by the mother of the bride. Both of their mothers have Italian heritage, so we wanted to honor that by stocking the dessert bar full of our families’ traditional Italian desserts such as Jordan Almonds, Torrone, and Anginetti (Gennettes). Both John and Courtney are very family oriented. Both chose their siblings to serve as our Maids of Honor and Best Men.  They were both fortunate to have their Grandmothers in attendance as well.  Their ceremony was held in Courtney’s childhood church, and the processional and recessional music were the same songs that her parents walked down the aisle to 40 years ago.

A few of their favorite moments from the day;

  • A hilariously heartfelt and choreographed performance for the Maids of Honor speech.
  • When they “stole away” to the upper floor of the round room and took a moment to enjoy each other and to watch all the guests rocking out on the dance floor.
  • Dodging raindrops while trying to get some great outdoor photos.
  • Serendipitously, the evening before the wedding, they were treated to a concert by the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and a huge fireworks display.

John and Courtney’s advice for other couples; “Try to relax and enjoy the process….it can be a very stressful, but also an extremely enjoyable fun experience.  Your wedding day will be a complete whirlwind, but you will find that most of the things you worried about, turn out just perfectly.  All that really matters is that your family and friends are there to surround you with love.”

Courtney & Seth Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Mountain Top Inn & Resort Emerald Green and Mint Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

Courtney and Seth could not have asked for a more stunning or breathtaking wedding. Held at the Mountain Top Inn & Resort, they enjoyed getting ready in the luxury cabin and their ceremony took place on a charming knoll with the majestic green mountains in the background. Despite a brief drizzle following their personally written vows, they managed to capture many tender and heartfelt moments outside. They even had their one year old Bernese Mountain Dog present for the ceremony!

We love their emerald green and mint color palette, especially in the hand crafted details that were abundant in the decor. From the planter seating charts to the embroidered table numbers, every detail was warm and inviting. The groom's father built the birdhouse card holder using wood from a tree he planted on Seth's first birthday. For favors the couple chose lottery scratch off tickets in a fun play on the saying "For Richer, For Poorer", and instead of a traditional guest book the bride and groom asked their guests to find a word in the dictionary that they felt best described them and to leave a message next to it.

The night was filled with lots of dancing and laughter as guests flooded the dance floor and Photobooth. The night ended with a glow stick exit and memories to last a lifetime.

Hilary & Josh | Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Stowe Mountain Lodge | Rustic Elegant Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

Hilary and Joshua have lived many places during their relationship, due to Joshua’s military service, but they dream of one day planting roots in Vermont. To them it is the most beautiful state in the country and so it was the perfect place for them to hold their wedding. They chose to stay at Stowe Mountain Lodge while they searched for a venue, but upon checking in to the resort they realized they had already found the perfect place!

Their theme of rustic glamour had shades of purple and gold to compliment the woodsy feel of the decor, which featured lots of flowers and plants. It was the perfect combination of classy, elegance, and rugged, nature. Solstice, the caterer at Stowe Mountain Lodge, worked with the couple to create their dream menu with duck, venison, local cheeses, and all local drinks. Their last minute decision to hire the band The Party Factor for the reception helped them show off their dance lessons.

Hilary and Joshua’s advice for other couples planning their wedding; “When you're choosing a venue, don't forget you're also interviewing a wedding coordinator. One of the main reasons we chose Stowe was because Wendy Collins, our coordinator, was stellar. She made what would have been a stressful year much easier and on the Big Day itself, took care of all the behind the scenes work. We literally had nothing to worry about the day of, and everything went flawlessly.”
